Lera came with two requests: “to see herself differently” and “to have a fun experience.”
I love both of these — I always try to give people a new perspective, something they don’t fully expect. That’s why the series has both classic street portraits and bold flash shots in a parking lot.
As for having fun — absolutely! A shoot with me is an adventure, exploring the hidden, unexpected side of even the most familiar places. Not the touristy, but the poetic Barcelona.
— “Look, the light falls beautifully here on a centuries-old wall — stand there!”
— “There are musicians playing — let’s capture the vibe, hop on that bench!”
(And if we see a fence — chances are, we’ll climb it.)
— “What should I do in the frame?” Just stand — I’ll take care of the rest.
The parking lot shots happened spontaneously. Lera needed to change in the car, and we turned that moment into a glamorous underground scene with a few direct-flash shots.
P.S. One of my favorite frames is where the windows reflect on the building. Sometimes you walk and see something beautiful — but you can’t quite capture it. During these shoots, we have the unique chance to catch those fleeting moments and create images that are more than photos — a performance with you at the center.
